Building a World-Class Education Institution

Insights from BSI’s Future Learning Podcast

Chandigarh University earned the top ranking in India in the West Asia rankings. This milestone highlights its dedication to building a world-class education institution.

Its strong focus on excellence in higher and transnational education sets it apart. However, staying at the top brings new challenges. Prof. Manpreet Singh Manna, Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University, emphasises that sustaining a world-class education institution demands continuous learning and adaptation.

This article summarises the key points from BSI Group CEO Simon Dewar’s discussion on with BSI Learning Institute CEO Kala Philip, CEO of Cyprinoid Solutions Dr Russell Joshua and Vice Chancellor of Chandigarh University in Mohali, India Prof. Manpreet Singh Manna.

This is the second-last video in our series on Transnational Education, where we discuss the importance of global education in skilling for the future, and its importance to Australia.

The Challenges of Leading a World-Class Education Institution

“When you are breaking your own records, your challenges become manifold,” says Prof. Manna. “Last year, we were ranked 146; this year, we are at 120 out of 6000+ institutions in the Asia-Pacific. The whole world is now looking at us to understand what makes us unique.”

A key factor in the university’s success is its strong industry engagement. With 986 industry partnerships, the university continuously shapes its curriculum to meet evolving workforce needs. By collaborating with global education leaders and industry experts, it ensures students gain future-ready skills that align with market demands.

To maintain its ranking, the university must balance academic innovation, student aspirations, and faculty retention. As Prof. Manna explains, “The moment you become number one, your faculty become highly sought after, and many receive offers to relocate.” To address this, Chandigarh University focuses on creating an inspiring work environment, rather than just increasing salaries.

A Culture of Continuous Learning

For international education institutions, stagnation is not an option. Prof. Manna emphasises, “We are always open-minded. Whatever new technology or expertise comes to India, we invite it in, learn from it, and integrate it into our institution.”

Chandigarh University embraces global education trends, vocational training, and technological advancements to stay ahead. It leads by example and drives continuous learning. This commitment strengthens its position as a top institution and ensures long-term excellence in higher education.
